AppId is over the quota
If you feel you don’t have a clear career path then you may be stuck in the same blocked talent pipeline as half a million female middle managers.
Research commissioned by everywoman and Alexander Mann Solutions reveals that 43% of female middle managers feel they would ideally like to leave their current employer. The aspects they were most frustrated with were lack of opportunities, a likelihood of progression and clarity of career path.
Importantly, the report, 'Focus on the pipeline: engaging the full potential of female middle managers' highlighted a striking difference between the views of HR leaders and those of female middle managers. With 81% of female middle managers feeling that lack of progression is a problem; the contrast is that only 62% of HR leaders agreed. HR leaders think that 35% of female middle managers want promotion in the next two years whilst the reality is that over half of women (56%) want promotion in that timescale.
What does this research mean for you?
There is a strong business case for companies to have higher levels of women in senior positions but with such a discrepancy between what HR leaders think female middle managers want and what they actually want, it’s really important that you take on responsibility for your career if you want to progress.
You are likely to be ambitious, but have you expressed these ambitions to your organisation or just sat back and waited to be helped with your career development? This research shows a blockage in the talent pipeline for female middle managers so it is important that you take charge of your own personal development. You must also work with your organisation, communicate, and show them you are serious about progressing to senior management level.
